The villages on the Manacor
If you like cycling routes, you have to come to Mallorca and ride along the Manacor - Artà Greenway. An almost 29 km route, perfectly adapted, that follows the old railway line that connected these two towns; passing through the villages of Sant Llorenç, Son Carrió and Son Severa.
Pula Golf Resort, located in Son Severa, is just a few meters from the Manacor-Artà Greenway. This makes it an ideal starting point. The Manacor-Artà Greenway has several picnic rest areas with spaces for bicycle parking.
If it’s not all about pedaling and you want to take the route calmly, along the Manacor - Artà Greenway, you can stop in the towns it passes through. This way, you can discover and visit some of their tourist attractions. These are the most outstanding:
Manacor
Manacor is the third largest city in Mallorca. Here you can find interesting cultural heritage, including the Royal Palace, the Church of San Vicente Ferrer, the Enagistes Tower and Ses Puntes Tower. It is also well known for the Drach Caves, which hide one of the largest underground lakes.
Son Carrió
Son Carrió belongs to the municipality of Sant Llorenç and is especially known for its traditional pastries and the church of Sant Miquel. It is not very old; in fact, its construction began in 1899. It was built following the plans of Mn. Antonio María Alcocer, which were slightly modified by the architects Antoni Gaudí and Joan Rubió. One of its most characteristic elements is its neo-Romanesque façade, accompanied by a four-story bell tower.
Sant Llorenç des Cardassa
Independent from Manacor since 1892, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar has the interesting Parish Church of Sant Llorenç. A baroque-style temple, with a smooth, wide and sober stone façade; very characteristic features of Mallorcan baroque churches. In summer it celebrates two festivals worth noting: Sant Llorenç (August 10) and the Virgin of the Encounter (September 8).
Son Severa
In Son Severa we find l'Església Nova. An unfinished temple that began to be built in 1905 following the plans of Rubió Bellver, a disciple of Antoni Gaudí. Here, people usually dance the “baile de bot”, a group of traditional dances of the islands. We also find the Parish of Sant Joan Baptista, built from a defense tower, or Ses Cases de Ca s'Hereu, a valuable example of traditional architecture.
Artà
As the last municipality of the Manacor - Artà Greenway, here you will find a combination of heritage, nature and tradition. Highlights include the Llevant Natural Park, the Regional Museum of Artà, the Ses Païsses settlement and the Navetiform of S'Arenalet de Son Colom. If you are interested in archaeology and Talayotic culture, characteristic of the islands, do not miss visiting Artà.
